Tilly Merrick, storekeeper of Concord, Mass., was Treasurer of the Union Turnpike Corporation. He owned Union Turnpike shares No. 206-215. The Corporation was formed in 1804 to build a turnpike (a predecessor of Route 2) from Concord to Leominster, connecting the Cambridge and Concord Turnpike and the Fifth Massachusetts Turnpike. Merchant in Charleston, S.C. Born in Concord, Mass., to Tilly Merrick (elder) and Mary Minot Merrick, July 5, 1759. Died in Charleston, 1788. Brother of Charleston and Concord merchant/storekeeper Tilly Merrick (younger), who was engaged in wholesale shipping in Charleston (first as a partner in Merrick & Course, then on his own) during 1780's and 1790's.
